In part one and two of this tutorial I walked you through the major steps of how to create your own scrabble tile pendants. We started with our image, adhered it to the tile and then coated it with a beautiful clear finish. In part three, I’m going to talk about the finishing touches!
Bail Styles: There are quite a few options on the market in terms of bails that will give you a nice finished look to your charm. Here are a few types that would work nicely:
- Pinch bails – work nicely if you don’t mind covering up a little bit of your image. You simply drill a hole straight through your charm and then affix the clip bail, pressing firmly together on both sides.
- Eye screws – A nice simple finish. Simply screw the eye screw into the top of your tile. You can then add a jump ring or thread your chain right through the bail itself.
- Glue-on bails – As the name suggests, this type of bail is simply glued on to the back of your pendant.
For this tutorial, we’ll be using glue on bails. This is where your strong glue comes in. Many people recommend using E600, which is a fantastic adhesive. Another option is superglue. E600 is more forgiving than superglue, allowing you to re-adjust your bail placement if it’s not perfectly centered. Superglue forms an instant, strong bond- so take care to place the bail exactly where you want it the first time if that’s what you choose.
Once you’ve glued the bail onto your pendant, be sure to let the whole thing dry or cure according to the adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations before wearing.
Choose a complimenting necklace- snake chain, ball chain, or a cord or ribbon necklace all look really nice with scrabble pendants.
Voila! You’ve just created your very own scrabble tile pendant. I hope you’re proud of your result. Just wait until you start receiving glowing compliments on your work!
Thanks for checking out my tutorial- I hope it was helpful to you!
