Tutorial: How To Make a Scrabble Necklace. Part 2 of 3

In part one of this tutorial I showed you how to adhere your image to a scrabble tile and clean up the edges so that everything looks fantastic!  In part two we’re going to continue on and finish the actual scrabble tile pendants.

Step 5:  Now you’re going to want to protect your image.  Using your paint brush, apply a thin layer of mod podge to the front of your tile making sure to cover the entire thing.

Step 6: Grab your dimensional glaze and apply a thin layer to the top of your tile.  Diamond Glaze is a popular dimensional glaze brand, and there are many similar products on the market.  It’s a matter of preference.  I personally like DG3 over the original Diamond Glaze since it spreads easier and produces fewer bubbles.  Experiment to find a brand you like.

TIP: If you want a thick finish on your pendant it is best to apply thin layers and let the glaze dry in between.  Applying glazes too thickly can result in a depression in the center of your finish instead of the solid domed look.

Step 7: Spread the glaze evenly over the surface of the tile using your toothpick.  You can also use your toothpick to remove any bubbles that may have formed.  Work carefully and allow the surface tension to keep the glaze in place without spilling over the edge of the tile.

Step 8: Wait.  Set your tile aside on a level surface where it can remain undisturbed for several hours.  Drying time will depend on the thickness of your glaze and the humidity in your area, so be patient!

TIP: To avoid dust and debris from ruining your beautiful new scrabble tile charm, place a box or cup over the top of it while it dries.

At this point you’ll have a stunning tile, almost ready for the finishing touches!  Proceed to part three to see how to pull everything together.
