In this 3-part tutorial I’ll be showing you how to make great quality scrabble necklaces that you can wear and interchange for a fresh and simple look.

First you’ll need to gather your supplies. You will need:

Scrabble game piece

Decorative paper

Paint brush

Scissors or a craft knife

Small file (optional)

Liquid glue/decoupage medium (like Mod Podge)

Dimensional Glaze (Diamond Glaze or similar)

Toothpick

Strong glue to attach bail (like E600 or superglue)

Glue-on bail

Necklace or chain

Once you’ve gathered all of your supplies we’re ready to begin!

Step 1: Selecting a great design for your pendant is one of the most critical steps. You could use decorative chiyogami paper, scrapbooking paper, digital images you’ve printed (get permission!) or even your own design. It’s up to you and the sky’s the limit.

TIP: Trim your paper down to the approximate size of your scrabble tile ahead of time. Be sure not to over trim.

Step 2: Apply a small amount of your decoupage medium/glue to the blank side of the scrabble tile. Carefully glue your paper to the tile and press gently to remove any bubbles.

Step 3: At this point you will likely have a bit of extra paper hanging over the edge of your tile. Turn the scrabble piece over and carefully trim away the excess. Turn the piece back over and smooth out the edges with your fingers if there are any raised areas as a result of the trimming.

TIP: Always use a sharp blade to avoid tearing your paper.

Step 4: Now I recommend taking a small file and very gently filing the edges of the paper to make sure they are in line with the wood scrabble piece. Be careful not to file the wood itself.

At this point you now have a pretty good looking tile. Make sure you are 100% satisfied with the way your tile looks at this point, then proceed to Part 2 of the tutorial.
